Teaching results
The students gain knowledge about
- the development of the world economy as a whole as well as its organic components,
- basic phenomena and processes, mutual conditionality (relativity) of economic development of particular parts of the world economy,
- the causes of the diversity of economic development of particular parts of the world economy as well as its consequences.
The students gain skills to
- locate and process information provided by international, national or regional institutions to address specific contemporary problems,
- compare economic policies of particular parts of the world economy in difficult conditions, particularly in 20th,
- identify alternative approaches to solve current problems based on understanding of specific historical conditions of various components of the global economy.
- understand that economic development is a reflection of specific conditions, changed conditions require changed approaches to solve problems of economic development,
- understand the current stage of development that helps to better forecast future development of the world economy as a whole, respectively its organic components,
- specify different interpretations of specific events, phenomena and processes, which can often be contradictory and to point to the causes of these different interpretations,
- eliminate simplified perspectives on the understanding causes of economic development in different parts of the world economy, to demonstrate their political conditional backgrounds caused e.g. by different cultures or different religions.
After completing this course students should be able to:
- understand current problems more comprehensively, realistically evaluate them and formulate generalizations,
- eliminate one-sided view of the complex problems in the current world economy,
- specify the causes behind often completely contradictory evaluations of specific situations in individual countries,
- analyze specifics of individual countries or individual components of the global economy and take them into account when drawing conclusions,
- evaluate relevant empirical facts that affect the macroeconomic problems of the world economy.

Stručná osnova predmetu

Indicative content:
The course is aimed to provide understanding of selected specificities of economic history in important economies in the period from BC to the present days, before the emergence of capitalism in Europe and on other continents, the development of capitalism, the development of the economies of the industrial era to the emergence of mankind, centrally planned, market and developing economies in the 20th century. The course also reflects upon changes in political and economic systems in Central and Eastern Europe in the 90s of the 20th century and their implications for the present stage. Attention is also paid to selected periods of economic development on the territory of contemporary Slovakia with special emphasis on the period of the 20th century.
