Teaching results
The successful graduate of the course will acquire knowledge mainly about:
- the structure of a scientific article and a final thesis in economics with particular focus on international business, as well as the standard content of their individual parts,
- principles of elaboration of a scientific article and a final thesis in economics, i.e., in international business,
- work with scientific literature and creation of structured reviews of literature,
- creation of research design and interpretation of results,
- logistic regression and sophisticated regression models such as spatial Durbin models,
- qualitative and quantitative approaches to solving the research question in the field of international business.
Successful graduates of the course will acquire skills mainly in:
- application of acquired knowledge while drafting own scientific papers,
- critical assessment of scientific papers of peers in the field of international business in particular, and economics in general,
- application of sophisticated methods in scientific work such as spatial analysis and logistic regression,
- effective reading of scientific work and creation of structured reviews of literature,
- fast reading of scientific articles and efficient creation of literature reviews,
- analytical work in statistical software Matlab and Stata.
Successful graduates of the course will acquire competences mainly in:
- presentation of own scientific work in front of the peers at academic for a,
- building of own research profile in academic social networks,
- argumentation in scientific group discussions,
- science dissemination.
Indicative content
The class content is aligned with the structure of a final PhD thesis and contains the following parts:
• Literature review and formulating a research question, determining the aims.
• Selection of variables and determining the sample.
• Methodological approach to the research question both quantitative- and qualitative-wise.
• Summary of research results and their visualization.
• Discussion with the results and robustness checks.
• Concluding remarks.
The students will get acquainted via study and analysis of papers published in frontline international scientific journals with content of individual parts of a scientific paper (introduction, abstract, literature review, aims, methodology, results, discussion, conclusion) and will critically assess the parts using the selected papers.
