Students will possess following abilities:
- in the field of intermodal transport of goods within the framework of business on international markets and the internal market of the European Union,
- on the structure of intermodal transport and the actors involved in it;
- on intermodal transport technologies in EU countries;
- on the possibilities of targeted interconnection and combination of transport modalities.
Students will obtain following skills:
- in addressing specific challenges in the field of intermodal transport operations linked to international trade;
- in the field of intermodal transport management and combination of transport modalities.
Students will gain following competences:
- efficient management of intermodal transport of goods;
- negotiations with entities involved in the intermodal transport of goods;
- understand the tools for managing intermodal transport by appropriately combining transport modalities in order to create added value throughout the transport chain and underline the importance of sustainability of intermodal transport.
Indicative content
The content of the course is to introduce with the intermodal transport of goods with an emphasis on its functioning in several EU member states, as well as with the legal framework governing this type of ecological transport of goods. Students will get acquainted with the advanced technologies used in modern intermodal transport terminals at the European and global level.

Syllabus
1. Introduction to intermodal transportation: development and importance, its advantages and disadvantages. 2. Technologies and standards for intermodal transport. 3. Intermodal transport infrastructure: ports, terminals and logistics centers. The importance of containerization. 4. Combined and multimodal freight transport operators. 5. The role of rail, inland waterway, maritime and air transport in intermodal transport routes fulfilling the function of the main transport. 6. The role of road transport in intermodal transport routes fulfilling the function of pre-carriage and on-carriage. 7. International regulation and institutional framework for intermodal transport in the EU. 8. Concept for the development of intermodal transport in Slovakia. 9. Comparison of intermodal transport of goods in the V4 countries. 10. Intermodal transport of goods in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. 11. Intermodal transport of goods in France, the Benelux countries and northern Europe. 12. Intermodal transport of goods in the countries around the Mediterranean Sea. 13. Current challenges and the future of intermodal transport.
