Teaching results
Students will possess following abilities:
- deepening the knowledge of the EU's external trade relations with selected territories, especially those with non-preferential agreement,
- knowledge of current EU foreign trade positions,
- knowledge of the coherence between the common commercial policy and EU agricultural policy on the example of the development of EU relations with the countries of Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific and Latin America, and on the example of a specific commodity,
- understanding the use of non-tariff barriers, in particular rules of origin (on specific examples).
Students will obtain following skills:
- the ability to use publicly available data in the field of international trade and to identify the potential of the EU's foreign trade (export or import) in a specific territory,
- the ability to prepare the presentation about the development of the EU's foreign trade relations and the EU position in the selected territory,
- the ability to formulate recommendations for resolving the current situation in the EU's foreign trade relations.
Students will gain following competences:
- the ability to work in teams as well as to coordinate the work of teams and to solve assignments within teams,
- the ability to defend the results of case studies for selected countries, based on the facts and data,
- ability to critically evaluate the acquired knowledge,
- the ability to think creatively and innovatively in search of perspectives for the development of the EU's foreign trade relations.
Indicative content
Current situation in the development of EU foreign trade relations with selected countries and territories. The subject is thematically related to the subject of EU foreign trade policy, but its content focuses on the use of EU trade instruments in specific trade relations with a focus on non-tariff barriers in preferential and non-preferential agreements. The course is based primarily on solving case studies and discussions.

1. The system of the EU 's bilateral relations with individual countries / integration groups. Preferential vs. non-preferential relations. 2. Trade policy vs. common agricultural policy - the specifics of the development of EU relations with the countries of Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific and Latin. 3. Use of non-tariff barriers in trade with the EU - determination of rules of origin and their application in relation to individual territories. 4. Simplification of rules of origin in trade relations with Jordan under the EU Jordan Compact. 5. The use of sanctions as a trade policy tool in EU foreign trade policy. 6. Development of foreign trade relations of V4. 7. Protectionist measures by the USA and other trading partners. 8. Prospects for the EU's foreign trade relations with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. 9. The importance of preferential vs. non-preferential relations on the example of the countries of the eastern branch of the EU Neighborhood Policy. 10. Perspectives of EU foreign trade relations with the USA. 11. Prospects for an EU-Indonesia Free Trade Agreement. 12. New trends of OE foreign trade policy with BRICS countries. 13. Current problems in the development of relations with the MENA Region.
Requirements to complete the course
20 % active participation ,
20 % case studies and assignments and their presentation,
60 % final exam.

Attendance at seminars: 26 hours.
Preparation for seminar: 13 hours.
Semestral paper: 26 hours.
