Teaching results

The final year student must submit the final thesis, proving that he can systematically and independently solve the assigned tasks and work in the relevant field. Through this seminar, the student receives regular professional support from the supervisor according to the focus of the particular thesis. The student discusses with the supervisor the structure of the thesis and the suitability of the methods used for processing the thesis, the choice of literature used, he/she acquires the practice of correct citation of sources. In addition, he/she continuously receives guidance and feedback from the supervisor on the individual parts of the thesis. Finally, the student develops and submits a syllabus and the first chapter of the final thesis as a concrete output.
Knowledge: the student acquires knowledge about the rules of ethical processing of the final thesis, deepens the understanding of the current state of research on the issue and professional (theoretical) perspective within the dealt topic.
Competences: the student will be able to express himself/herself in writing form, logically formulate his/her ideas, search for and process adequate sources and professional literature.
Skills: the student will practice correct retrieval of information from various sources in the processing of the thesis following the Code of Ethics of the University of Economics in Bratislava, internal guidelines and copyright law. The student can define the goals of the final thesis, determine the sequence of implementation and fulfilment of individual steps over time.

Indicative content

Indicative content:
1. Scope limitation of the research problem of the thesis, definition of the hypothesis and main research questions. Conceptual apparatus and use of professional terminology. Determining the schedule for writing the final thesis, requirements for completing the course and evaluation criteria.
2. Approach to identifying suitable information sources to elaborate on individual parts of the thesis. A bibliographic search of scientific and professional book/journal literature, other sources and data.
3. Citation standard and requirements for citation of used literature in the final thesis. Internal guideline for final theses.
4. Evaluation of the relevance of the identified literature. Evaluation of the current level of research at home and abroad in the relevant field. The expected contribution of the student to the researched issue.
5. Working with electronic databases (Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, etc.). Discussion of alternative ways of processing the topic of the final thesis.
6. Formulation of the main goal and partial goals of the thesis.
7. Compilation of a detailed syllabus of the thesis.
8. Presentation of the final syllabus and feedback from the supervisor regarding the set goal, internal logic and expected results.
9. Determination of appropriate research methods.
10. Continuous guidance of the student and consultation of questions over the writing of the first chapter of the thesis.
11. Arrangement of material, stylization of the text, specification of relations and formulations, completion and formal arrangement of the first chapter.
12. Presentation of the first chapter of the thesis, evaluation of the content and formal aspects of the submitted manuscript by the supervisor after taking into account the supervisor's comments and suggestions resulting from the mutual discussion of the supervisor and the student.
13. A comprehensive evaluation of the last phase of writing the final thesis, the student's approach to processing the part of the thesis and determining the next steps. Granting credit.

Requirements to complete the course

Continuous fulfilment of partial tasks within the set deadlines.
Submission and presentation of a detailed syllabus of the final thesis.
Submission and presentation of the first chapter of the final thesis.

Student workload

total 52 hours, of which 26 hours of active participation in the seminar and 26 preparation for seminars – fulfillment of partial tasks
