Teaching results

Students will possess following abilities:
- ability to understand the issues of international trade operations,
- overview, categorization, and regulation of international trade operations,
- to provide contractually various forms and specifications for international trade operations.
Students will obtain following skills:
- to propose and evaluate solutions to problems arising in the field of international trade operations,
- to formulate recommendations for the development of individual types of trade operations,
- to carry out international trade operations and evaluate the solutions adopted in several areas of international trade,
- to create separate implementation projects and evaluation procedures for activities in the field of international trade operations.
Students will gain following competences:
- the autonomy and foresight of the various situations in the field of international trade operations,
- initiative and responsibility for the management of working team during the realization of business operations in the international environment,
- to present professionally the results obtained from practice to the professional public.

Indicative content

Principles of trading in Slovakia after accession to the EU, regulation of international trade operations, classifications of international trade operations, barter and compensation trades, special types of business operations, international auctions, stock exchanges, tenders and electronic trading, investment units, fairs and exhibitions, individual phases of export and import trade operations and their specifics in customs clearance of consignments.

Syllabus

1. Principles of trading in Slovakia after joining the EU. Changes in trade in Slovakia since accession to the EU, development of foreign trade of the Slovak Republic, export support, territorial strategies of Slovak exports. Regulation of external trade in the EU. 2. Classifications of international business operations. Division of individual types of business operations. Established types of business operations. Import, export and re-export operations. Their use and current development tendencies. 3. Barter and compensation trades. Their use in international trade and current development tendencies. 4. Special kinds of business operations. Parallel trades, buybacks, offsets, processing operations. Their use and current development tendencies. 5. International auctions, commodity exchanges and e-commerce. Their use in international trade and at the same time the tendency of development. 6. Trading with investment units through international tenders. Their use in international trade and current development tendencies. 7. Trade fairs and exhibitions as a form of international trade. Organization and implementation of trade fair exhibitions abroad. At the same time, the tendencies of development. 8. Legal forms of business in the implementation of foreign trade activities. An international trade treaty according to the Vienna Convention. 9. Export trade operation – preparatory phase (preliminary price calculation) and contractual phase. 10. Export business operation – implementation phase and evaluation phase (complaints). 11. Import trade operation – preparatory phase (preliminary price calculation) and contractual phase. 12. Import business operation – implementation and evaluation of imports (complaints). 13. Specifics in customs clearance of consignments for import and export. CBAM and EUDR.

Requirements to complete the course

20 % continuous written test
20 % semestral work and its presentation
60 % final written exam
