Knowledge:
Acquire basic knowledge of the various forms of business clustering in terms of legal and organisational aspects, knowledge of cluster management (strategic, financial, personnel) and marketing, knowledge of cluster initiatives and their specificities
Competence:
• To master the basic concepts related to cluster initiatives, cluster policies and clusters.
• To be familiar with the legislation related to clusters in the Slovak Republic, the EU and the world.
• Gain knowledge on all areas of effective cluster management and performance measurement.
• Gain generally applicable information for acting as a cluster facilitator.
Skills:
• Ability to set up a cluster and work as a cluster facilitator in all phases of cluster activity.
• Ability to manage a cluster and develop individual plans ( strategic, financial, marketing, personnel, etc.).
• Ability to prepare and manage cluster initiatives.

Indicative content

1. Definition of basic terms (network entrepreneurship, strategic alliances, virtual and hollow enterprise, historical development of cluster issues)
2. Definition of clusters and their basic characteristics (concepts of regional clusters and regional innovation networks, typology of clusters and dimensions of clusters, advantages and disadvantages of clustering)
3. Cluster initiatives (content and objectives of cluster initiatives, policy areas as prerequisites for cluster initiatives, life cycle of cluster initiatives, financing of cluster initiatives)
4. Cluster emergence and life cycle (methods of cluster identification, stages of cluster development, systemic and direct impact on cluster life cycle stages
5. Benefits of clusters and their activities (benefits of clusters for individual cluster members, cluster objectives and activities leading to their fulfilment, activity plan and its implementation, key factors influencing the success of clusters
6. information, communication and financial policy of clusters (cluster information system, cluster financing
7. Cluster personnel policy and management (cluster participants and cluster structure, cluster organisation and cluster management, cluster facilitator

Requirements to complete the course

40 % continuous written work, 60 % presentation of the final thesis (examination)
