Teaching results
Knowledge:
- Acquisition of theoretical knowledge of language material analysis strategies that allow for increasing language sensitivity (e.g. through statistically substantiated relevant collocations or by being able to distinguish the meaning of frequently confused - equally or similarly sounding words in the target language based on contextual information).
Competences:
- Acquisition of competence to obtain relevant data from corpora and to derive information based on their interpretation that will streamline the translation process and / or be useful in the analysis of language material.
Skills:
- Acquisition of the skill to apply specific procedures aimed at solving translation problems and difficulties, to reveal the so-called treacherous words (faux amis), to search for content, stylistically and pragmatically suitable other language equivalents. Acquisition of such skills will significantly increase the level of quality of the translation process, esp. translation as a result of this process and will fundamentally contribute to the acquisition of language skills and to the improvement of the student's communication skills in the target (and possibly also in the source) language.
Indicative content
- Introduction to the work with corpora, German and Slovak corpora, finished corpora, possibilities of compiling own corpora
- Corpus structure, corpus types – on the example of specific German and Slovak corpora
- Possibilities of searching and utilizing other functions available in corpora in general – on the example of specific German and Slovak corpora
- Possibilities of solving selected translation problems and translation difficulties through working with the corpus
- Text analysis (morphological, word-formation and semantic levels) through working with the corpus as a tool for increasing communication competence in the (target) language
- Text analysis (syntactic, stylistic and pragmatic levels) through working with the corpus as a tool for increasing communication competence in the (target) language
