Teaching results
• Knowledge:
By completing this course, students will broaden and deepen their knowledge of the history and cultural and social realities of Francophone countries on the European, American and African continents. They will learn about the historical and current geopolitical context of Francophone countries in relation to France. They will acquire knowledge of language policies, the status and specifics of the French language in individual Francophone countries.
• Competence:
Students will be able to engage in professional discussions on the given topic. They will be able to apply their knowledge appropriately in intercultural social and work contexts.
• Skills:
Students will be able to use specialized terminology in French at a high level. They will enrich their skills in the area of intercultural competence. They will develop their critical thinking skills.
Indicative content
- Francophonie and French speaking countries. Introduction to the topic.
- Belgium. Overview of the cultural and historical development. Language policy and the status of French in Belgium. Civilisation and literature of contemporary Belgium.
- Switzerland. Overview of the cultural and historical development. Language policy and the status of French in Switzerland. Civilisation and literature of contemporary Switzerland.
- Luxembourg. Overview of the cultural and historical development. Language policy and the status of French in Luxembourg. Civilisation of contemporary Luxembourg.
- Canada (Quebec). Overview of the cultural and historical development. Language policy and the status of French in Canada. Civilisation and literature of contemporary Quebec.
- African French speaking countries (Maghreb). Overview of the cultural and historical development. Language policy and the status of French in Africa. Civilisation and literature of the Maghreb countries.
