Knowledge:
Students will master basic terminology in the field of language culture at the level of theoretical linguistics. They will be able to use theoretical knowledge of lexicology to identify literary (correct) and non-literary (incorrect) expressions in spoken and written expression.
Competences:
- development of competence in the use of professional normative language, especially in academiccommunication of oral and written nature,
- creation of the competence necessary to master the linguistic proofreading of a professional textwith the help of codification manuals.
Skills:
- the acquisition of professional skills in finding and assessing information in linguistic manualsand dictionaries to check the correctness and suitability of language units in the written text,
- in accordance with the orthoepic standard, skill in writing different texts representing basic rhetorical genres,
in the field of reading academic texts, rhetorical skills to present a text in accordance with theorthoepic standard of the language.

Indicative content

Indicative content:
 Normative language in the context of a translation from a foreign language into Slovak
 Orthoepic and orthographic norms in the Slovak language
 Normative language and non-normative elements in the Slovak language
 Style-forming characteristics of academic writing. Training in the production of texts of a professional nature
 Rhetorical genres in written and spoken speech
 Practice of oratorical speeches (agitationally-promotional, instructional and occasional)

Interim evaluation: 40%
Final evaluation: 60%

Student workload

Full-time study: 104 hours. Of which:
26 hours – attendance at seminars
30 hours – preparation for seminars and for the interim evaluation
48 hours – preparation for the final exam
